Yes, there are a few flaws in it (like modern idioms and expressions which did not come into use until the early or late 20th. Watch trailers & learn more. It is an uplifting film that is full of hope. Excellent film, good story and plot. There prefect Mauritius struggles between his daughter Caelia, who suffers an unknown disease, and his job as warden of the prison commanded by own Nero, that he is considers as a failure on his military carrier. I never got the feeling of ‘dark and depressing’, just very realistic representation of Roman government as it was and impacted believers, as well as those spreading the word, government officials, Jews and Gentiles in early days after resurrection. Luke ventures to Rome to visit Paul -- the apostle who's bound in chains and held captive in Nero's bleakest prison cell.
James Faulkner's experience as a Shakespearian actor is a bonus and is evident in his portrayal of Paul, and Olivier Martinez as the head jailer in charge of the Roman prison where Paul is kept is also suitably cold, uncaring and ruthless.

I can not recommend watching it to friends or family unless they are knowledgeable enough in God's Word to know what is biblical and not. As a Christian of many years, this is such an inspiring film. At least the director and producers have made a concerted effort to stick to (some of) the historical facts.
