There's an inherent longing in Elizabeth Chomko's stunning feature debut, What They Had.

Bridget can’t discipline Emma and it’s easy to connect the dots between Emma’s rebellious behavior, a mistake Biddy is making, and one that her own parents once made with her. The Chicago setting, for this viewer in particular, was also a welcomed personal touch. Watch this one for the on-screen work of its superb cast but try not to pay too much attention to the lines they've been dealt to deliver.One of the first movies I've seen in quite a long time where literally no cast member pulls in a bad performance.

The conversation regarding the choice to move them into a home does get repetitive, but the cycle feels very familiar and real. | Nick is the ultimate wise guy, a role that suits Shannon quite well.
