Martin’s literary debut.

This story took only an hour to read, but I found it haunting; one of those stories you think about for days.

His father was Raymond Collins Martin, a longshoreman, and his mother was Margaret Brady Martin.
Let us know what’s wrong with this preview of I thought I would test the waters by reading this book, which contains earlier (1970's) science fiction short stories, including the Hugo Award-winning title novella. George always has great ideas in his work, but it’s not always for everyone. Welcome back. They can This took me a couple days to get into but by the time they went into the depth of human psychology- the fear, yet inevitability, of being alone and our quest to find connection and understanding, I was sucked in. Override was pretty neat ("corpse handlers" was such a disturbing yet compelling fictional career). I am a big fan of ASoIaF and fond of short stories, so I had high hopes. After reading Tuf Voyaging, this does not feel like Martin.

Oddly enough, A Song for Lya wasn't my favorite story in this collection, although it was quite good. Most of the stories are a bit on the dark side, which is fine, but I'm glad that ASOIAF (at least in my mind) shows an outlook that's a little more positive - not that it doesn't have its share of darkness! Good collection but I think I enjoy the worlds and deeper characters that he creates in longer stories.Easy sci-fi to read with different stories showing different human values. You might say no way, but compare this with waiting to die naturally when old? You might say no way, but compare this with waiting to die naturally when old? I don't recommend this to those who want to get into Martin's workI've never read anything by Martin.

I have no complaints.Song for lya is such a fantastic story its so interesting it touches on so many themes religion, god, love , special abilities, I read this and reread it again and againQuick thoughts: Real mixed bag, but all the ideas are quite imaginative and there are a few gems. This is one of those rare reads that leaves you speechless to talk about it for a time.

The Novella is better, with an intriguing concept, but hisI've never read anything by Martin.

I paid the rather exorbitant (at least I thought so) sum of 15 euros for it just to satisfy my piqued curiosity. I am a big fan of ASoIaF and fond of short stories, so I had high hopes.I ran across this in a used bookstore in Berlin. I bought 'A song for Lya' entirely by accident by clicking the wrong button on my kindle. This took me a couple days to get into but by the time they went into the depth of human psychology- the fear, yet inevitability, of being alone and our quest to find connection and understanding, I was sucked in. At the same time I know what its like to seek connection from one that walls them self off and doesn't even realize what kind of connection or understanding they are missing out on. The Exit to San Breta felt a bit like a Twilight Zone episode (although perhaps only because I was reading it late at night and was already sufficiently spooked). Connect any celebrity with A Song for Martin to see how closely they are linked... romantically!Viveka Seldahl (L) co-stars as Barbara with Sven Wollter (R) as Martin in First Look's A Song For Martin - 2002 Mrtin, this one having an almost philosophical twist on the existence of a higher power and what all humans really want in the end.

I read most, although not all, of the stories, and I have to say that I am unimpressed. For instance...when older, would you let yourself be slowly eaten to death by a parasite if whilst it happened you were happier than you had ever been and didn't feel anything but absolute kinship with the universe? I can’t help but appreciate the aspects of Sci-Fi books that are completely unrelated to Sci-Fi, such as the exploration of relationships (whether platonic or romantic). This book had been in my bookcase for years, unread. Mrtin, this one having an almost philosophical twist on the existence of a higher power and what all humans really want in the end.

I'd give that one five stars right away.
