Generally when a screenplay is full of plot-holes and stuff that happens for no good reason it makes it a bad screenplay. Reviews were generally positive, with critics praising the animation, music, and voice work. The Prince of Egypt is a fantastic movie, and the new stage adaptation is also great. Maybe it could be even better in just a couple of places, but in all, it’s a fantastic piece, and I’m really glad I bought the cast album on the first day. Being based on a religious text is no excuse.Frustratingly not as good as this could be, however it might still be one of Dreamworks' better animation efforts. The plague's visualization is rather well done and the movie does contain one breathtaking scene whereby Moses, guided only by a flickering candle, unveils his true nature and origin following the paintings on the wall, the kind of ingenious cinematic sequence that makes the bulk of Dreamworks' animation work that much more infuriating by comparison.
