Before reading this book, I considered myself to be relatively knowledgeable about the history of racial discrimination in our country, but until I read this book I really didn't know much about the murder of Emmett Till except as a sort of slogan for much of what was and is wrong about race relations. This last Tuesday I finally received my copy of The Blood of Emmett Till and finished it by Thursday night.I heard a story on NPR regarding this book.
But Tyson seems to be in a different century from Kendi and Coates.Despite a reference to Trayvon Martin, this book seems like it was written over a decade ago. The Blood of Emmet Till, by author Timothy B Tyson, is a fantastic book .

This is information that should be freely publicized to exonerate Emmitt Till and inform the public. I was already aware of the subject itself but was shocked to my core as to the depth of it. So I am grateful to Mr. Tyson for educating me.

It wasn’t long before this was all the buzz among Emmett Till scholars because Tyson told several people, including me, that he had scored a prize the rest of us could only dream about. I could hardly put it down and finished reading it the second day. In the interim, I plugged away on my own book and pieced together Carolyn’s life and role in this case as best I could from other sources and from people who knew her. To say it is an enjoyable read is ludicrous but it is a necessary read for all who still care about race in this country and with Steve Bannon around these days perhaps more poignant than ever. It's hard to imagine that these things were occurring in the 50s, I mean the 50s weren't that long ago! Till is later kidnapped in the middle of the night, brutally tortured, killed, and his body is dumped in a river.

It is about two miles down a gravel road outside of Glendora, Mississippi.
