Native New Yorkers know to expect the unexpected, but who among them could've predicted that a man would stroll between the towers of the World Trade Center?

His stories address themes of patriotism, and duty while stressing the importance of personal freedom and expression. just buy it! The planning took years, and the prescient Petit filmed his meetings with accomplices in France and America. This documentary of his breathtaking exhibition was made after the Towers were brought down by terrorists. Stuff to think about.

A great character, as you would imagine, the high wire walker is a man possessed with his passion to walk between the towers. You have to admire the man's courage and obvious skill, but it's the story of the planning, which endured many twists and turns, and the many things that could have gone wrong that captures your attention. After dancing for nearly an hour on the wire, he was arrested, taken for psychological evaluation, and brought to jail before he was finally released.

Man on wire gave me nightmares & daydreams envisioning how anyone's knees wouldn't turn to rubber. But he’s also a kind of clairvoyant, a soothsayer.

Samsara is a documentary that explores the world through images to discover the connection between humanity and nature. On August 7th 1974, a young Frenchman named Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between New York's twin towers, then the world's tallest buildings.

And the film itself is really about another kind of assault on the Towers - but one that is entirely benevolent and, as one of Petit's accomplices says 'without wickedness'. Please watch. How they managed to perform such a feat at just the right period in history when security in New York buildings was more relaxed compared to post 9-11 and the preparation (6.5 years dreaming about it and 8 months planning/spying/training ) the coup took were simply, as the DVD cover describes it, the most artistic crime of the century. What does he see? What the film is finally about is that of a courageous man who, against all logic, walks up and down on a wire, high up in the sky, sitting and relaxing in-between, almost dancing, like a Fred Astaire of the skies, for more than 45 minutes, challenging man, nature and the whole universe, making you feel that you can do anynthing you want as long as you really believe in it! What compels the high-wire walker? If you watch footage of our 911 red, white & blue tragedy it is truly the Frenchman Petit who accurately encompasses how indescribably horrific it was that those maniacal murderers killed thousands of innocent people & tried to crush a wonderful vibrant city's spirit.

The film is crafted like a heist film, presenting rare footage of the preparations for the event and still photographs of the walk, alongside reenactments (with Paul McGill as the young Petit) and modern-day interviews with the participants. Watching him on the wire is mesmerising - a craftsman at work. His words really hit home & he may be the most sane of anyone on earth. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 29, 2009 I thought it was amazing that, even though they show you the end result at the beginning, I was tense throughout the film as to what would happen at the end!

The movie left me breathless for fifteen whole minutes when that pivotal moment arrived: the walk between the Twin Towers—on a wire.

One slip and it’s over right now.

Highly recommended.

MAN ON WIRE On August 7th, 1974, a young Frenchman named Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between the New York World Trade Center’s twin towers. Yet during the 1930s he was loved by millions of Germans.

A feat that took him months of secret preparations to accomplish and landed him in prison - outastanding feats always seem to provoke the small-minded. !Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 9, 2009 Sign in to see videos available to you.Rentals include 30 days to start watching this video and 48 hours to finish once started.Quickly browse titles in our catalog based on the ones you have picked. The Aftermath Of "The Artistic Crime Of The Century"
