This film was unexpectedly insightful, funny and layered. This is the catalyst for upheaval in the long-established pattern of his life. It's not possible to move past him, he is an auteur and his commitment to his music and that respect for his heroes is rather obvious. This movie was a gas. It's a shame it isn't better known really, as people are missing out. This film is unusual in depicting the lives of working class people – the lead actor is a prison guard.

Marlon Brando is his god. Fantastic acting. This cast was perfect...every single one of them. City Island is revealed as a secret enclave in New York that I knew nothing about, although my family is very close by in Long Island.

That’s probably realistic but, as I said, not the stuff of comedy. Not a big budget film, came out as an independent.
I'd recommend it for pure entertainment. If you like films with belivable characters you will enjoy this. I mean that sincerely. Bring me the head of Andy Garcia.

It is on my movie shelf of 'keepers'.
It was more thoughtful for us. I suppose it’s a feel good movie, as things pretty much work out for most of the characters. Prison guard Vince tells Molly from acting class, that one inmate is his 24 y.o. Oh my God. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on April 26, 2009. City Island is indeed an island—a superior small film standing proudly alone this season in its American excellence about a fishing village in the Bronx where Rizzo family shenanigans happen just short of magical realism. This is one of the best I've enjoyed in a long time. City Island is a neighborhood in the northeastern Bronx in New York City, located on an island of the same name approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long by 0.5 miles (0.80 km) wide.
What a nice thing to have a small community near enough to commute to NYC and far enough away to NOT be NYC-ish. The surprise was the huge emotional treat awaiting the viewer as personal secrets of the family are revealed with good outcome in this wonderfully acted and written film. I watch 80 to 100 films a month, and every month or so there's a sleeper. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. But, it was well intentioned and had a good ending, except I wasn't quite ready for a little God-tweek at the end. Nothing against God, but I wasn't expecting that at the end of a fun plot.
