This version has a sense of completion about it, so I'm intrigued by other comments about a further 40 minutes or so that is not included herein. The moon that the Nostromo visited has been colonized, but contact is lost. It is also the third film of Leone's The boys stash half their money in a suitcase, which they hide in a locker at the railway station, giving the key to "Fat" Moe Gelly, a reliable friend who is not part of the operation.

Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in America", which in its intended 227-minute version is an epic poem of violence and greed, was chopped by ninety minutes for U.S. theatrical release into an incomprehensible mess without texture, timing, mood, or sense. The sound, however, (although listed as Dolby 5:1) is a remix of fairly cruddy analog stereo. With his kinetic directorial style, it's easy to understand why The Man with No Name trilogy was such a success. Noodles sees the truck's auger grinding down rubbish, but Max is nowhere to be seen.

Once upon a Time in America is the the Italian maestros last film (as well as being his only American production), and it turned out to be the grand send-off that Leone so rightly deserved.
Really interesting and cosy.....brilliant acting and story line as yoy would expect in the cast portraying gangster mafia roles....4 hrs.....didnt seem that long i guess you get so drawn into it the time flys....
Sergio Leone has to be my favorite director, with Jean Pierre Melville second, and both men were Americaphiles, but Melville's films never left France while Leone rewrote the American Western.
The film was shot between 14 June 1982, and 22 April 1983. Blu ray arrived within a few days - is in a very slim case, slimmer than typical cases. It was the final film directed by Leone before his death five years later, and the first feature film he had directed in 13 years.
